The following is a collection of resources and data related to New York State's accountability system under the federally approved Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), which was signed by President Obama in 2015. The system has been in place since the 2018-19 school year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States Department of Ů (USDE) approved a two-year pause in accountability determinations for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years. Reimagine Phase Resources for the 2025-26 School Year Based on 2024-25 School Year Results
Amendments to the New York State accountability system under ESSA were approved by USDE on January 8, 2025. This phase of the accountability system, the Reimagine Phase, begins in the 2025-26 school year based on 2024-25 school year results. Resources explaining the accountability system for the elementary/middle (EM) and high school (HS) levels for this phase are available below.
